Corporal Idea

If local administrators and trustees want to go back to the good ol' days of paddling students, then I suggest they bring back bonfires at the Civic Center parking lot, Friday night dances in the gym, lockers, jeans and t-shirt dress code, band serenatas during the night on Mother's Day, pep parades/riding on flat bed trucks, etc., etc.

UPDATElink to story suggested by reader -- Male administrators should not paddle female students.

Lawsuit waiting to happen. Somebody wants to get rich the easy way through roasting Jr.'s bottom.

^ Agree with anonymous. It's already becoming a problem in the Dallas area.

Good link, Et tu Rosse. I'll put it up on the front page post.

Students might go for a paddle as opposed to an in-school suspension, as the GMA story recounts.

I am a proponent of corporal punishment. It worked back when and it works now. Dr. Spock was WRONG. Society cowered easily and now the systematic problem with juvenile delinquents is rampant. It’s time for a “revolution of evolution”.!..

Want the world back??? Take your children back.!.. CPS qualifications are questionable at best and they have no arrest authority!!! They can only recommend. Stop coddling and put your foot down.

Yes I am a parent of 4 with very little tolerance for foolishness.!..

Parents should be able to paddle your kid, but I think the risk > reward to have schools do it. Plus, it would only be effective against middle school students.
Back in my day if we got in trouble, they'd offer the guys 3 days in detention or 3 swats. We took the swats every time.
That being said, the best discipline would be some old fashioned harmless embarrasing the offender. Make them stand with stupid signs for an hour. But I'm sure someone would sue for that.

I would be good with paddling but LISD would have to get a good supply of paddles.

Agree that paddling worked back then but the teachers were a different breed then. Nowadays the new breed of teachers are so intoxicated with their degrees that has for some reason created an unbreakable barrier between the students. Those degrees surely were very difficult to obtain but that piece of paper will not teach social skills to interact with people. That skill comes from within the person and that is not rocket science .

____Who will be the designated "paddlers". it used to be the assistant Principal or football coach and what type of training will they need to be certified Paddlers. And then, the first time "que se le pese la mano and a kid gets a blister or a bruise on his ass, it is off to court we go and the program is Kaput

Know many teachers, do we? I see this barrier being created by parents or admin that coddle students, letting them feel like they have no responsibility anymore.

I found this on a Yahoo blog spot. The subject matter was "Zero Tolerance in Schools". The topic was a kindergartener being suspended for making a play gun out of Lego’s and playing cops and robbers. Also a 1st grader was suspended for making a terroristic threat for menacing a class mate to put gum in their hair. Anywho,,, here it be and I couldn't have said it better myself.

"Bring back Principals with paddles and parents with principles, and this garbage will begin to recede. I remember when vampires and zombies were the "bad guys" and we had things like the PTA. We are definitely through the looking glass here, folks! And things are getting curiouser and curiouser."

The students don't give a flying EFF whether a teacher has a degree from Harvard or TAMALE U. I have countless overheard many heaters form both districts complain they are not "BABYSITTERS" and that crates the unbreakable barrier. Yes in some cases it's the parents fault but upon accepting an educator position it becomes a mutual concern. The teaching profession has it's perks of having only 9 months to work , not competing for holidays or weekends . It was once a sacred cow profession and I am glad Gov. Perry has SPANKED this pompous institution !
