The low turnout is probably due to the fact that we could not vote for "None of the Above". I mean seriously, how was anyone able to choose a candidate for County Judge. Forget the runoff, I say we just leave the position vacant.
That is why people should go out and vote and avoid a runoff. Voter apathy is alive and well in Laredo, TX. and the canoneros are working hard to deliver those voters who just see a ballot with someone's name circled in and take out the elderly to vote for "their" candidate. Many people who voted do not even know who these people are. I really thought this time around with the economoy the way it is, that people would stand up for what they believe is right and elect competent, devoted, educated people. But I've been proven wrong once again. I still have faith in the system and until we are knee deep in trouble will people cry out for help. Don't let it be too late. Make a difference and vote in the runoff, it's not too late. Every election should be an important election. Voter education should extend to all facets of the community and everyone should encourage others to vote.
When a local election rolls around that actually has competent, devoted, and educated candidates, I am sure more people will go out and vote.
The other problem is that this was a primary election, and Republicans like me did not get to vote for local races because everyone runs as a Democrat in this city even when they are not really Democrats.
Bernman, you can still vote in the Democratic primary. You don't have to vote for every race.
As for me, I'm curious as to why we keep hearing about the 100K + registered voters, when less than 1/2 of that shows up to vote. Voter apathy has something to do with it, but not 50%!
As for qualified candidates, until we stop voting for immature, childish clowns who play with campaigning & elections like their own personal toys, we won't be seeing too many of them. I saw so many games being played while I was poll watching & got sick to my stomach when I told those in positions to do something about it (ie, stopping it) that "This is how Laredo works. Get used to it." And yet folks wonder why Laredo is still stuck in the 19th Century.

Interesting idea. The runoff will undoubtedly see voting numbers that will resemble ultimate suckage.
