Trees

Where are the trees for El Chacon and Slaughter Park?

Another 100 Trees for North Central Park

Just four months after the first 100 tree planting event, District VI Council Member Gene Belmares is inviting the community to come out once again and help him plant another 100 trees at North Central Park on Saturday, March 20, 2009, starting at 8:00 a.m.

“This will truly be a great tree-hugging experience,” stated Belmares.

The next 100 trees that will be planted will also be trees whose foliage will change color in the fall, creating a true “New York Central Park” feel to the hundreds of walkers, runners, bikers and everyone in between who takes advantage of the park’s approximate 2.7 miles of pathway. However, in order to plant 100 trees, Belmares needs the assistance of volunteers willing to help make Laredo even more beautiful. Any Laredo citizen age 12 and over is invited to sign up. Simply contact the City of Laredo Environmental Services Department at 794-1650 for more information. Or, for registration and liability forms contact Keep Laredo Beautiful via e-mail at keeplaredobeautiful@gmail.com to sign up oneself, family, school, church or place of business

I agree. Slaughter park will be one sexy park when it's completed. Why don't we have even more badass city council members?

they haven't even completed the cement walking trail at slaughter park. is it slowly being forgotten?

I noticed that they were working on the bathroom facilities at the park, but I haven't checked to see how far along they are.

I've seen a lot of soccer activity in recent days. There are a lot of young players out there at night. It looks like a soccer league that's taking advantage of the park.

Anyway, the park needs more trees around the soccer fields.

"Badass City Council Member?" Are you talking about Belmares? That should be Ass Bad council member.

Just wait until he takes over the park for his own personal and financial benefit. Just like he did with St. Augustine Plaza, Zaragoza Street, the El Portal Center, the list goes on and on.

I can't wait until the city election season gets rolling. The truth will set us all free.

And, I think Slaughter Park is great and will get even better, but a "New York Central Park Feel", give me a freaking break!

I know I asked last time but don't recall getting a definitive answer, are these "New York Central Park" trees capable of surviving off our sparse rainwater alone or will they need to be watered using our already scarce municipal water supply???

There are plenty of trees and other landscaping that thrive in intense heat.
All they have to do is some research to identify what survives in our 110+ heat.
Whatever they cost is worth it in the end considering you save on water!

Well that North Park is always getting trees and shit. This isn't the firs time they have a community planting. Even San Isidro had a good park. I'll stop complaining when they complete Slaughter Park, godamnit.
