Tijerina Doing Crazy Stuff

Residents of Los Arcos organized a town hall meeting of sorts where candidates for County Commissioner Pct. 2 were going to have a chance to respond to peoples' concerns. After some back-and-forth, the event was scheduled to take place at a community center in the area, and all candidates were going to show up. But something happened.
Tijerina arrived with an entourage that disembarked from a large white bus
marked with Wawi Tijerina bumperstickers. The individuals wore Wawi caps
and t-shirts and filled the center to standing room only.

Incumbent commissioner Rosaura (won't call her wawi) Tijerina chartered a bus, filled with supporters, to the event. That's rich. But how else was she supposed to get there? We can't expect her to drive her shiny black Mercedes to the colonia, not with all that dust and humility to confront. No sir.

She did what any red-blooded Laredo jerk politician would've done: gone in with a bus. But those that have pulled this stunt have not fared well in the past. So look for an upset in this race.

Wait a minute, residents of a colonia organized a forum so colonia residents can hear first-hand from candidates, and the INCUMBANT filled the place with her supporters?

Man, I wish the organizers would have hired me to be a Sgt. at Arms for that meeting. I would have done it for a quarter, maybe a dime.
"Excuse me, are you a resident of this colonia? No? Okay, can you please wait outside until we ensure all residents get a seat? Thank you".

At least the colonia residents have a better idea of who to vote for....and it won't be for Tijerina.

It's pretty sad that the colonia residents are taking this more seriously than most of us.

what in the Good Lord's name could the people of the colonias want from these politicos.. 30 years of single party rule (dems) in Laredo since the colonias were formed and they are still relatively the same as they have always been. despite millions of dollars of
government studies, analysis, conferences, etc etc.

NO the best WELFARE is a JOB,, not begging from any
of these self-serving bureaucrats,,

They are engaged, and that's a good thing.

"the county attorney hasn't been at her job for too long..."

What's up with that?!

Wawi was making a cheap shot. Although from the report, it does sound like the original question posed to the County Attorney was "Can a candidate use a county building for a political event?" & not "Can a community organization hold an informational meeting with all the candidates?"

It's kinda funny if you actually follow politics and know some of the behind the scene stuff. That "Daisy" lady quoted in the article got into a fistfight with another lady at that community center, and I believe got banned from being there as she only caused trouble...she has a personal vendetta against Mrs. Tijerina. Furthermore, the county attorney is good friends with both Judith Gutierrez and Meg Guerra from Laredos. Remember the story about Juanita Puente who was the director of the center before she was reassigned that ran a couple of months ago? Mrs. Puente is the BEST friend of Anna Laura, and thus, runs in that circle. She was a huge problem there too and the residents demanded that she be removed when she falsely imprisoned some little girls and had them sweep and mop some small messes they had made. If she had not been reassigned, the county would have had a HUGE lawsuit from the parents of the little girls. Mrs. Tijerina was the reason they didn't sue. Remember people, Laredos is not an unbiased publication. Neither is this blog, as I've asked Keyrose on a previous entry why the disdain for Mrs. Tijerina, and he never answered. I don't live in Laredo and thus, don't vote there, so I have no dog in the fight, but don't be sheep to what Meg Guerra wants you to believe due to the situation with her friends. Other than the obvious slant politically on this site (which I overlook most of the time), I do think Keyrose is doing a great job and the writing is enjoyable. Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to put out what I have been informed of through informed and unbiased people in Laredo.

All the county leaders do not give a damn about the colonias only empty promises at election time. Sounds like the O administration don't it .

Thanks for the comments, Anonymous.

Let me first say that I'm a bit wary of all local incumbents, especially those with nicknames.

I know that I nitpick with the whole nickname issue but that's not the whole reason I oppose some people.

Now, let's put aside this story that appeared in the LareDOS, interesting as it may be. But instead, let's talk about Ms. Tijerina's campaign flier which was a topic during the debate earlier this week on KGNS.

I'm dumbfounded by the fact that she would include the 5th bridge as one of her accomplishments. She also mentioned a secondary water source. She mentions bringing back honor and dignity to the court. I don't think so.

She's literally making stuff up and that's where my suspicion comes in. I posted a link on a thread entitled "Respond to Debate" (Tuesday, Feb 2); in that link is a post where I talk about Ms. Tijerina's dubious claims.

I'm not comfortable with the fact that Ms. Gutierrez is trying to get her old seat back. And I don't know if Mr. Salinas would be any better than his opponents.

The fact remains that the current crop of incumbents give us this endless supply of material to criticize. We have the mayor getting parking tickets downtown. Rick Flores was talking about Nicaraguan jungle fighters during his tenure. Louis Bruni made disparaging remarks about his ex-wife during a televised commissioners meeting. And now we have Tijerina taking her posse everywhere she goes.

It must be tough to hold office in town. But I wonder about our politicians' judgement sometimes. It makes my cynical blogging so much easier.
