The LMT conducted interviews for all those who are seeking local elected office. Their Election Guide is supposed to help us make more informed decisions. Maybe.
In the race for Justice of the Peace Pct.2, two candidates decided not to take part in the interview process: Santos Benavides, and Victor M. Schunior. They did not respond to the Times' three-question questionnaire. Whether these two have decided to throw in the towel early, or partake in some sort of unorthodox campaign strategy, is unknown.
That leaves Ramiro Veliz Jr. (wearing cowboy hat in Election Guide picture); Daniel Dominguez III; and Ricardo Urdiales. I'm not a fan of the cowboy hat, so my pick is down to two gentlemen. This is going to be easy.
In the District Clerk race, Ms. Sylvia Palumbo did not provide her age. Strike!!!

The other person who didn't respond is running against the JP out in Bruni.
61
Can we confirm that? The 61?
Since you're ragging on Sylvia's age, let me clue you in, as I know her personally. If you think she doesn't know technology because of her age, you're wrong. She may have different ideas on how to use it than someone younger, but she's not ignorant of it nor is she afraid of it.
Having said that, I find it very sexist to "strike" a candidate from consideration simply because of her age. Surely you can find something else to base your choice on.
___both Sylvia and Judith are striking women, no le piden perdon a nadie, nada de Bimbo's
Sexist?!
Hmmmmmm. Maybe. But can I be sexist when all candidates are women? I think I'm more guilty of ageism here. That doesn't make it any better.
But I will tell you that it bothers me when men do that too (omit their age). You can see it during the Pro8news birthday shout-outs, where men, and women, put "young at heart."
I called out Benavides and Schunior for not responding to the Election Guide questionnaire.
I poked fun at Palumbo for not including her age.
When you have so many candidates in one race, they start sounding alike. One little deviation from procedure, no matter how trivial it might be, will sway my decision.
Another thing that bothers me about Ms. Palumbo is how she is paired up with Judith Gtz in campaign signs. They're inseparable. This whole family affair business irks me. Just like Rosaura, and Tano, and Tano's mother who works at the courthouse.
And Henry Cuellar, and Martin, and their sister running for gawd knows what.
I just favor someone who can show some semblance of independence, even though it's next to impossible in our community.
