I find it curious that JUDGE DANNY VALDEZ!!! and the rest of commissioners court "balanced" the budget by cutting ten percent from each department's budget, but they have the expenditures available to donate half a million bucks to UISD.
This must be a real morale booster for employees and department directors.
And isn't it funny that the only Webb County officials that come out in the picture are the ones that are running for re-election? This gives me more reason not to vote for these people.

It's easy to be generous with "other people's" money. If they want to donate, let them make personal donations out of their paychecks.
Yeah, I noticed that. And if we're having a shortfall of over $1 million, why are we giving $500K + to UISD? (not that UISD doesn't need the money or doesn't deserve it, but the timing of this "donation" is highly questionable---after all, doesn't UISD cover the South Side?)
Forgot to add: where's the scratch for WCISD & LISD? Not enough voters in those district whose vote needs to be bought or what?

I didn't read the article so I may be wrong but doesn't this payment represent the monies from the "school lands" managed by the county for the benefit of the school districts?
School lands earn income from royalties and maybe other rentals (hunting leases???) and while Webb County is in charge of collecting this money, a large % of it belongs to the districts, so the County cannot use it for its own because that money never belonged to the County.
So, before we go grilling the stomachs of the commissioners court lets make sure that this $500k payment was something that belonged to UISD in the first place (but a swift kick in the butt for whoever at LMT called it a "dontation", it ain't a donation).
Actually, once I enlarged the photo I noticed the fake "check" had "School Land Funds" in the memo section.
So, this money doesn't affect Webb Co. budget at all because it belongs to UISD.
So, LMT person needs a "sape" for calling a donation and pissing everyone off.
