A Coming Together

The Border Patrol embraces those that it's trying to keep out. Via the Laredo Times:
U.S. Border Patrol and Customs and Border Protection agents celebrated the
achievements of Hispanics in Laredo on Monday during the National Hispanic
Heritage Month Special Observance Program at the Holiday Inn Civic Center

Bordertown Blues provides a picture of the event.

Hey invite Ochocinco !

I can't believe "Ochocinco" is actually spelled out on that guy's jersey.

When I saw his name on t.v. I thought the producers were playing around, but then I actually saw it on the shirt. Priceless.

Go back and google the story, it's actually quite interesting. He got his name changed last year in a Florida state court, but the NFL refused to acknowledge it. Reebok actually put up a fuss also because they had a huge inventory of "Johnson" "85" jerseys that would essentially be useless. Apparently it was appealed to some higher court and 85 won.

Nice to see the behemoth that is the NFL can be forced to relent on some issues, at least.

That being said, while I respect his right to call himself whatever he wants (and love that he chose OchoCinco*), he's still a major league ass-clown.

* Still runs a distant second to "He Hate Me", though.

The gold gloves he was wearing Sunday totally clashed with his uniform.

Hate to burst the bubble, but this is a farly ignorant comment. CBP ranks as one of the most "diverse" agencies in the government. Why? Because Border Patrol is 90% Hispanic. They are "embracing" their own Hispanic Heritage Month. Sarcasim is only effective if you are right.

"Farly" (SP)

INSERT "fa-i-rly".

<< Why? Because Border Patrol is 90% Hispanic. >>

Is that true? I know they have a rather high %, but 90% seems a bit too high.

Unless they send all the Anglo BP down here and the Hispanic ones to Canada?

Funny, before I grew my goatee without fail several times a month I'd get asked by someone I just met if I was a BP agent.

hmm lets see... The Border Patrol embraces those that it's trying to keep out.

are you stating that all Hispanics are in Laredo illegally?

Are all Hispanics = Mexicans?

___nices story in the local LMT about the drunken BP agent caught going the wrong way up interstate 35, picture included ...

Clearly a PR move designed to appeal to local sentiment. However, Hispanic heritage month takes on more importance in northern cities rather than on the border. Still, whatever floats their boat (no pun intended).

The BP should dress up as British redcoats then they would truly fit into local culture.

Yup dess-up like WBCA wigs ,makeup, fancy dresses ,etc. etc. fit right in Laredo !

not too many people want to be a BP agent, can't say that Hispanics make 90 percent of the force. I can tell you that in the 60's and 70's is was rare to see a Hispanic in the BP.
