Webb County Goes With Half-Assed Idea

A ban on aerial fireworks for this weekend is now in effect thanks to a doubtful Commissioners Court. LMT's Zach Lindsey reports:
The ban specifically restricts the sale and use of "stick rockets" and "rockets with fins."

Firework vendors have already gotten the word. Webb Co. Spokesman Larry Sanchez:
"They have already taken those fireworks off the stands," Sanchez said.

It has been extremely dry in Laredo for several weeks. I thought Webb County was going to ban fireworks completely. We were left in suspense up until the last minute to see what our elected officials were going to do. Well now we know.

Now fire department employees are going to be charged with the task of putting out all the grass fires this Fourth of July weekend. Yipee for them!

Really, que les cuesta que pongan un ban on fireworks para un fin de semana? This is really a gutless move.

How many fires does the fire dept. put out during the year? Really. And they complain of having to be on the ball this coming weekend. Come on!

The sparks from the fireworks can only reach half your height. After that, they're dangerous.

A fire official stated that last year they put out approximately 80 fires during the 4th of July holiday.

That sounds like a lot but I can't confirm that number.
